Confined Space: NFPA 1670 - Awareness Level (CS-AL)

Prerequisite: None.

Duration: Three hours.

This multi-media, open discussion presentation covers all of the requirements needed to bring one’s agency into Awareness Level compliance with Chapter 5 of NFPA’s 1670 standard for confined space rescue. This information allows all department members to safely assist the technical rescue team at the scene of a rescue.

Confined Space: NFPA 1670 - Operations Level Skills (CS-OLS)

Prerequisite: None.

Duration: Three days.

CS-OLS will provide the skills and concepts needed to meet the requirements outlined by the NFPA for a Operations Level confined space rescue team. Hands-on practice coupled with essential classroom sessions prepare the participant to operate safely at the scene of a simple confined space operation.

Confined Space: NFPA 1670 Technician Level Skills (CS-TLS)

Prerequisite: None.

Duration: Five days.

Not only does CS-TLS meet all of the Technician Level skills outlined in NFPA 1670 and 1006 for confined space rescue, it also fulfills the requirements for entering, working and performing rescues in permit-required confined spaces as specified by OSHA in 29, CFR 1910.146.  CS-TLS is a complete confined space rescue program that covers all aspects of both entry and non-entry rescue operations.

NOTE: While experience in rope-based rescue is not a prerequisite for CS-TLS, it is strongly recommended

Confined Space: Industrial Entry and Rescue (CS-IND)

Prerequisite: None.

Duration: Four or five days.

This course is designed to meet and exceed all of the requirements for entry and rescue outlined in OHSA’s 29 CFR 1910.146, Permit Required Confined Spaces. The techniques and skills covered in this course are specifically selected for use by in-plant rescue teams operating in power plants, refineries, mills and other industrial facilities. This course is a must for any industrial-based emergency response team.

NOTE ON CS-IND: Combine this course with Rope Rescue: Industrial/Structural  - Level I and Level II for a complete program to meet the rescue requirements outlined in OSHA’s 29 CFR 1910.146, Paragraph K and Appendix F

Confined Space: Annual Skills Review (CS-AR)

Prerequisite: CS-TLS or documented equivalent.

Duration: One or two days.

The primary purpose of CS-AR is to assist industrial teams and agencies in meeting the annual training compliance requirements specified by OSHA for a confined space rescue team. Scenario-based training is conducted in all six types of OSHA designated spaces. During the course, teams are objectively evaluated as well as introduced to new rescue techniques.

Confined Space: Rope-Based Entry and Rescue (CS-RBE)

Prerequisite: RX-OLS.

Duration: Three days.

This course concentrates on the basic rope-based skills needed to enter and perform rescues in vertical spaces. CS-RBE is intended for teams that already have a strong base knowledge of confined spaces and their associated hazards but may be lacking in rope rescue operations. It is ideal for HazMat teams or industrial teams that are well versed in the hazards of confined space entry.

NOTE: It should be noted that this is NOT a complete confined space rescue course but rather concentrates on a single aspect of the entire confined space rescue operation.

Confined Space: Advanced Team Skills and Problem Solving (CS-ATS)

Prerequisite: CS-TLS and RX-TLS.

Duration: Three days.

CS-ATS is geared toward active confined space rescue teams. Advanced problem solving, seemingly complex rigging and difficult patient disentanglement scenarios test the team's decision making and rescue abilities. A strong emphasis is placed on integrating both high angle and confined space skills, backup team operations and saving the "downed rescuer."
